Guest Presentation by the City of Perth at the June meeting of History Council

Guests Tabitha McMullan, Alliance Manager Activation & Cultural Experience, Kate Parker, Cultural Collections Coordinator and Richenda Prall, Cultural Heritage Engagement Officer attended the June meeting to update the Council on developments in History and Heritage at the City of Perth. Tabitha shared a presentation based around key areas of work.

Events: Heritage Perth’s Open Day had to be cancelled due to the pandemic but the 90 events organised will now be held in April 2021. Several events were able to be moved to online digital engagement such as the Kuraree Perth Town Hall virtual exhibition.

Community Engagement: Projects continue through school programs, aged care talks, social media channels and a community bunting project.

Cultural Collections: Oral histories are underway with four Elders. The pandemic has created opportunities to fast-track digitisation projects. Heritage: Work on a new Thematic History Framework and local heritage survey will soon commence.

Committee members asked questions based around likelihood of online catalogue access (eventually), whether planned Thematic History Framework would be developed by consultant (appointment process under way) and whether there would be an opportunity to respond to the local heritage survey (yes).
